Shem Yusuf (pictured) knows the discipline it takes to succeed in poker and in other stressful situations. The 38-year-old from Kansas City spent eight and a half years as a U.S. Marine.

"The discipline you get in the Marines helps in poker and in life," he says. "It's helped me in many situations."

It's helped a bit with his poker game and he now has almost $49,000 in live tournament winnings. He's now left the Marines behind and works as a procurement analyst for the federal government.

As  Flight 1B is underway, Yusuf is among those in the field and is hoping to add to his career totals.

"These are fun and friendly tournaments," he says of the RGPS. "For only a $575 buy-in you've got a chance at a big first-place payout. You've got to go to Vegas to get that."
