RunGood Poker Series at Downstream Day 1 Recap

The RunGood Poker Series makes its final stop on the road to the RunGood Cup at Downstream Casino Resort in Quapaw, Oklahoma this week. We’ll be awarding eleven $2,000 Blaycation prize packages which include the buy-in to the RunGood Cup Championship Event at Harrah’s New Orleans, hotel accommodations, VIP tickets to private RG Cup events, and travel cash to get you to the Big Easy.

Day 1 kicked off with two starting flights in the $180 NLHE Deepstack event, sporting a $25,000 guaranteed prize pool. A total of 320 players entered the event, obliterating the guarantee with a prize pool of $44,800, to which we’ve added a $2,000 New Orleans Blaycation prize package which will be awarded to our first place finisher.  When play ended at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, just 60 players remained.

Roger Laughlin emerged as the chip leader during the first flight with 151,000 chips. RG pro Chance Kornuth, who is making his first appearance at a RunGood Poker Series, topped that (albeit on his second bullet) by nearly 100,000 chips—finishing the day with a stack of 249,000. The 60 remaining players from both flights will combine for Day 2 at noon on Thursday and play down to a winner.

The RunGood Team adds new ambassadors for remaining 2015 season.

RunGood Poker clothing company and tour welcomes Mina Greco and Julie Anna Cornelius for remaining stops at Downstream Casino Nov. 4 – 8 and Harrah’s New Orleans Dec. 10 – 13.

Tulsa, OK: As the Road to the RunGood Cup themed 2015 Fall Season for the RunGood Poker Series rounds the corner, Poker Pros Mina Greco and Julie Anna Cornelius will be joining the company’s roster for the tour’s last stop and championship event. Both have begun to forge a name for themselves in the game through tournament poker. Recently, Mina has collected roughly over $175,000 in tournament earnings for 2015, with a big chunk coming from her recent TV Final Table appearance at the Inaugural WPT Choctaw Main Event. Julie has won over $85,000 in recorded tournament cashes and has become an established grinder on the World Series of Poker Circuit for the past three years.

“The RunGood Team and I could not be more thrilled to have these two join us for our 2015 season! Both bring positivity to any table they sit at that is refreshing and very much welcomed in a game filled with highs and lows.” – Justin Gardenhire, Team RunGood Captain.

Despite her 2015 breakout year, Mina’s interest in the game of poker has always been part of her life. “I'm a twin and come from a large Italian family. As a kid the family would gather together and play cards, that's where the interest began. I prefer to play poker sporadically rather than on a daily basis; helps relax the mind. During my down time I enjoy the simple life and surround myself around positive people, it keeps me grounded.” –Mina Greco. She currently resides in Houston, TX with plans on taking down the Inaugural RunGood Cup Championship December 10th – 13th at Harrah’s New Orleans.

Julie, also known as the Emoji Queen in the Poker Twitterverse, found her passion in poker after experiencing a remarkable set of occupations. “I worked at the White House, the American Embassy in London, and was also a chef and flight attendant on private planes for six years. All of these life experiences and adventures somehow led me to find my true passion in life, poker.” – Julie Anna Cornelius. She is a California girl at heart but has recently made her home in Chicago, Illinois. She will be joining the RunGood Team at Downstream Casino November 4th – 8th for the last stop before the championship.

The talk at the table all afternoon, though, centered around 8th place finisher Randy Murfin. After making his exit from the tournament, he headed to the poker room to play in the cash games. Before completing his first orbit, Murfin was dealt pocket nines. He raised and then called a three-bet from another opponent. The flop came 99J, giving Murfin quad nines. He check-called the flop and the turn brought another jack. All the money went in and his opponent tabled JJ for quad jacks. This triggered the massive bad beat jackpot and Murfin, with the losing hand, was awarded over $60,000 as his share as the bad beat jackpot stood roughly around $159,000.

At 4 p.m. the $230 Pot Limit Omaha tournament got underway, drawing 36 players by the time registration closed and creating a prize pool of $22,500 after the rebuy period closed. Based on the number of players entered, 4 players would be paid, with $10,125 going to first. In the end, it was RunGood pro Jonathan Gaviao who took the top prize, with RG pro Ray Henson taking second.

RunGood Cup at Horseshoe Council Bluffs Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of the RunGood Poker Series at the Horseshoe in Council Bluffs, Iowa began with the conclusion of the $180 NLHE Deepstack event. 48 players returned to compete for $8,704 in first place prize money plus the $2,000 New Orleans Blaycation prize package. Elizabeth Hunter began the day as chip leader with 229,000 chips, but couldn’t keep the momentum going and exited the tournament in 12th place. Mo Nuwwarah of PokerNews, who will provide live coverage of the RGPS Main Event this weekend, also made it into the money, finishing in 20th place. RunGood pros Ryan Tepen (17th), Jamie Kerstetter (14th), and Ross Bybee all made it into the money, with Bybee reaching the final table before being eliminated in sixth place. Taking the top spot was chip leader Duane Gerleman, who agreed to chop the remaining prize pool with his heads-up opponent, Nathan Rohda. As part of the deal, Rohda would take home the $2,000 New Orleans Blaycation prize package and $6,070, while Gerleman would pocket $8,000 cash.

At 7 p.m. the $200 Bounty Hunt tournament got underway, drawing 166 players by the time registration closed and creating a prize pool of $17,430. $50 of each buy-in was withheld from the prize pool as the player’s bounty, to be given to the opponent who delivers the knock-out blow. Based on the number of players entered, 18 players would be paid, but with bounties in play, everyone had the opportunity to win back their buy-in (or more), whether or not they made it into the money.

Three RunGood alumni made it into the money: Jamie Kerstetter (12th), Tana Karn, and Ross Bybee, with the latter two reaching the final table. It was all Ross Bybee at the final table, though, as he proceeded to personally knock out seven of his eight opponents on his way to taking down the $4,707 first place prize. Bybee finished the tournament with a total of 26 bounties for an additional $1,300.

The action on Friday begins with the 12 p.m. $40 All-In or Fold Main Event Satellite w/$20 Rebuys. It’s just what the name implies—players must either move all-in preflop or fold. One seat will be awarded to the RGPS Main Event for each $675 in the prize pool. Players looking to win a Main Event seat via a more traditional tournament structure will have that opportunity beginning at 4 p.m. with the $160 RG Turbo Main Event Satellite. A minimum of five seats are guaranteed, but one seat will be awarded for every $675 in the prize pool. At 7 p.m. Friday, the first of three Day 1 flights of the RGPS Main Event kicks off. The Main vent sports a $100,000 guarantee, but on our last visit to Council Bluffs the prize pool climbed above $250,000. With just a $675 buyin, it’s one of the best value tournaments you’ll find anywhere. Two more Day 1 flights are scheduled for Saturday, along with the final satellite for this series. Come join us for all the action and get on the road to the RunGood Cup!
